Rumour Mill Grinds On - Ipswich Town News

Newspapers over the weekend and today have thrown up new possible identities of Town's major target. Despite Hassan Kachloul admitting that it is him that George Burley has tabled an offer for the rumours haven't abated.

When we say new we're not really being entirely correct as one of the players rumoured to be targeted by George Burley is Gert Verheyen. Town tried to sign Verheyen a few onths back (see virtually all the NewsNets during the early part of October) but Club Brugges refused to let him leave. Gert wasn't very happy about this and apparently said some things in the press presumably designed to annoy his club into selling him. It didn't seem to work.

Club Brugges were knocked out of Europe a while back to the Belgians might be willing to sell Verheyen if they need some cash. However, it seems unlikely that he is the target. For starters relations between the two clubs were somewhat frosty. Plus Kachloul's claim on Friday pretty much scuppers the Verheyen story.

Similarly we are being linked with a ÂŁ4 million deal for Rangers player Claudio Reyna. It seems very unlikely that Town would come in for the American especially at the fee quoted. Sounds like paper talk to us.

Away from the world of transfer rumours, Town are taking a Jamaican on trial. Jermaine Johnson (yes, I have got that right and no he isn't related to either of them) is a 20-year-old midfielder who may get clearance to play in the reserves on Wednesday at Portman Road against Chelsea (KO 7pm).
