Blues Draw Posh - Ipswich Town News
Town have drawn Peterborough United away in the first round of the Carling Cup. The game, which will be the Blues' 150th League Cup tie, will be played in the week commencing August 21st.
The Blues last played at London Road in pre-season two years ago when they won 2-1, courtesy of an own goal and an Ian Westlake strike. In 2001 another friendly ended in a 2-0 victory.
Competitively, the sides have met on only three occasions, all FA Cup ties. In 1955/56 Posh defeated Town 3-1 at London Road, in 1959/60 the Cambridgeshire club left Portman Road with a 3-2 victory and in 1971/72 the Blues won 2-0 away from home.
The Carling Cup first round involves all 72 Football League clubs and is played on a regional North-South basis with the top 36 clubs seeded.
The 12 Premiership clubs not competing in Europe join in at round two with the eight clubs in Champions League, UEFA Cup or Intertoto action coming in at round three.
