Jim Consults Sir Bobby - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton has spoken to former Town manager Sir Bobby Robson regarding a couple of his potential signings. Magilton is looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the season's start but has missed out on a young Premiership player he had hoped to bring to the club on trial.

Magilton says he put a few of his ideas to the former ex-England boss: "I was only on the phone to him for a few minutes but it was definitely time well spent. He had plenty of advice to offer that I have taken on board.

"Basically, I rang him to run a few players by him. There are a number of players out there who are available and nobody knows them better than Sir Bobby.

"He was forthright, which I appreciated. He gave me the thumbs up on some and the thumbs down on others. I couldn't have asked for more."

The Northern Irishman had hoped to look at a trialist from a Premiership club but says that now looks unlikely: "I thought I had something lined up but it has failed to materialise. The lad has gone back to his club with aspirations of playing in the first team, which is exactly how it should be.

"But the situation's not necessarily dead. I will monitor it over the next few weeks and something might still happen.”

The new Town boss will field trialists Colin Healy and Eugen Bopp in Saturday's first friendly of pre-season at Boston's York Street.

Elsewhere, former Town defender Drissa Diallo has joined the MK Dons on a free transfer from Sheffield Wednesday.
