Illugason Called Up - Ipswich Town News

New academy recruit Viktor Unnar Illugason has been called into the Iceland U17 squad for the Nordic Tournament held in the Faroe Islands later this month. Illugason, 16, is one of three Town youngsters playing in the competition with Jack Ainsley and Jordan Rhodes in the England squad.

Illugason will join up with the rest of Town's 2006 academy intake at the end of the Icelandic football season where he is playing for his local club Breidablik. The striker has been a regular sub throughout a disappointing campaign for his second-from-bottom side, scoring his first senior goal in a 4-1 victory over ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar on the opening day of the season.

Iceland face Finland, Denmark and the Faroe Islands at the group stage with England in the other section taking on Sweden, Norway and a Faroe Islands U19 side. The winners of each group go through to a final.

The prestigious tournament, won last season by the Republic of Ireland, runs from 31st July to 5th August.
