Garvan Rested - Ipswich Town News

Midfielder Owen Garvan is rested for today's first pre-season game at Boston United's York Street. The Irishman has tendinitis and is left out as a precaution.

Also remaining behind in Suffolk are Alan Lee, Danny Haynes and Matt Richards, all of whom are on the way back from injury.

The Blues will field a different side in each half with all three trialists - Eugen Bopp, Colin Healy and Alexis Bertin - included in the 22-man squad.

Pre-season training has continued this week with Town legend John Wark helping out with coaching the forwards. New academy full-time coach Richard Hall has been taking specialist defensive coaching sessions, something which is likely to continue once the season starts.

Elsewhere, today's tabloid transfer gossip suggests that Leeds may be willing to swap Northern Ireland international striker David Healy for Town midfielder Darren Currie.

Healy is apparently unhappy at Elland Road and set for clear-the-air talks with manager Kevin Blackwell. Leeds were linked with a £250,000 bid for Currie last month but Town boss Jim Magilton said he was unwilling to sell the player and had received no enquiry.

Ex-Town keeper Richard Wright is linked with a £1 million move to George Burley's Southampton. Despite Nigel Martyn retiring, Wright looks unlikely to be first choice at Goodison Park with Tim Howard joining David Moyes's club on loan from Manchester United.

Town squad: Bertin, Barron, Bopp, Bowditch, Casement, Clarke, Currie, De Vos, Forster, Healy, Krause, Moore, Naylor, Parkin, Peters, Price, Sito, Supple, Skard, Westlake, Williams, Wilnis.
