Unlucky Jim - Ipswich Town News

Jim Magilton is to face FA action regarding his shout at Andy D'Urso after all. The midfielder had thought that he had got away with his post-match tirade at the hapless official after the incident was omitted from the referee's report, but it seems D'Urso has contacted the FA in a separate letter.

Magilton now has fourteen days to repond to D'Urso's letter which alleges foul and abusive language. The midfielder could find himself in extra strife as he was warned about his conduct in the summer after the incident with Mike Whitlow during the play-off semi-final at Portman Road.

At Chelsea Wayne Brown held Magilton back as he attempted to put his point over to the referee. However, D'Urso had clearly heard enough.

George Burley said: "It might be that Jim will have to attend a hearing."

Martin O'Connor, Birmingham's captain, has warned Town that they face a horible game at St Andrew's on Wednesday. It is doubtful that the Town players having experienced Trevor Francis' side several times in recent years were expecting anything else, but O'Connor has reiterated the point anyway.

He said: "We could do with creating a horrible game, both on and off the park."

We're not quite sure what he means by off the park, although possible John Beck tactics such cold tea in the dressing rooms, flat footballs and other types of gamesmanship spring to mind.

He continued: "We have to start really well and be physical, getting in amongt them. If they prove themselves up for a fight then fair enough. If not, the odds will be in our favour."

It seems as usual against Birmingham the abilities of the referee will have a great bearing on the way the game will go.

Town's Academy sides both won at the weekend. The U19s beat Peterborough 4-0 with goals from Darren Bent, Robert Dickinson, Alan Connell and Matt Bloomfield.

The U17s beat Birmingham City 2-1 in a game that Town fans will hope is an omen for Wednesday. The Town scorers were James Martin and Wayne Wasylyczyn.

Richard Logan made his debut for Cambridge United in Saturday's 1-0 loss at home to Walsall. The Town striker is on loan for a month at the Abbey Stadium and came close to a home debut goal.

His performance was said to be good despite only training with his team-mates for a matter of hours. The game marked Logan's first League start after making three League sub appearances and one as sub in the FA Cup at Morecambe earlier this month.

Town moved level on points with second-placed Leeds United following a pulsating 3-3 draw with Hull City at the MKM Stadium having been in front three times. Returning striker George Hirst put the Blues in front in the 19th minute but the Tigers levelled on 40 through Ozan Tufan before Omari Hutchinson put Town back ahead with the first of two brilliant goals. However, Hull equalised again through Liam Delap in the 56th minute, then Hutchinson’s second put the Blues ahead again, however, Tigers sub Noah Ohio grabbed a point for the East Yorkshire side with three minutes remaining and the Blues were unable to take late chances to win it.
