Williams New U's Boss - Ipswich Town News

Former Blue Geraint Williams has been confirmed as the new manager of Colchester United. The former assistant to Phil Parkinson was always favourite for the job despite newspaper reports to the contrary earlier in the week.

Williams joined Town for £650,000 in 1992 and made 264 appearances for the Blues before departing for Layer Road in 1998, where he was a player and a coach during former Portman Road colleague Steve Whitton's reign as manager prior to Parkinson's period in charge.

Elsewhere, former Town trialist Colin Healy is set to be offered a contract by Barnsley after a spell on trial at Oakwell.

Everton's Lee Carsley, claimed to be a Town target earlier in the week, is in new Wolves manager Mick McCarthy's sights: "Lee is somebody I like and admire and we are looking at maybe somebody of that ilk.

"I have not spoken to David Moyes about him yet. Sometimes when it comes to transfers people put two and two together and get five, but I am definitely looking at somebody of that ilk."

Carsley is understood to want a move nearer to his home in the Midlands.
