Bruce Agrees Terms - Ipswich Town News

Town have agreed terms with Birmingham defender Alex Bruce. The 21-year-old is undergoing a medical and will sign a three-year deal.

Boss Jim Magilton told the club site: "Alex has been with us all day and we're hoping to tie everything up tonight."

Central defender Bruce is the son of Birmingham's boss Steve and started his career at Blackburn before moving to St Andrews in January 2005.

A spell on loan at Oldham immediately followed where Bruce junior was involved in their FA Cup third round victory over Manchester City and scored the decisive spotkick in a shootout which took the Latics to the LDV Vans Northern Final.

Another loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday followed, helping the Owls into the Championship via the play-offs. Last season Bruce joined Tranmere on what was planned to be a long-term loan but only stayed for two months.

His Birmingham career has been restricted to three league starts and three sub appearances plus four starts and two games after coming off the bench in the FA Cup. The rest of his 49 total appearances have come for his loan clubs.

Born in Norwich, Bruce committed to the Republic of Ireland earlier this year, qualifying through his grandmother. The 5ft 11in defender, who can also play at right-back or in a midfield holding role, had a year left on his contract at St Andrew's and is understood to have moved on a free transfer.
