Jim on Vemund Exit - Ipswich Town News

Boss Jim Magilton has explained his decision to release Norwegian midfielder Vemund Brekke Skard. The former Brumunddal player had his contract settled last week.

Magilton told the club site: "Vemund is a lovely lad and very popular about the place, but I felt that he wouldn't be part of my first team plans here.

"I'm looking to add to my midfield options by bringing players in, we still have Owen Garvan to return and I couldn't see Vemund competing for a place in the side.

"We also have to maintain the progress of the youngsters here and it's important that they play regular reserve team football.

"Vemund could have played in the reserves, but that would have meant one of the youngsters missing out and that's not going to benefit the progression of the young players or the club in the long run.

"It wasn't an easy decision to make, but I felt that it was the right one for this club.

"It gives Vemund the opportunity to go out and find himself a club where he can get regular first team football and we will help him in whatever way we can to achieve that. We also wish him every success in the future."
