Well to date there are 179 entrants in the TWTD Fantasy World Cup League (league is TWTD and PIN is 8005291). I must admit I am pleasantly surprised by how many posters have entered and am now hopeful a late flurry will take us over the 200 mark.

Although, I expect Kenoblues to finish in mid-table obscurity I do wonder who will be picking up the highly coveted TWTD shirt?

Of course, it goes without saying that South Africa 2010 is already tainted by exclusion of the brave plucky Irish team so cruelly robbed by ‘le hand’. How much better the competition would be with the likes of Given, Keane and, who knows, maybe even Garvan!

Good on Tommy Smith for getting Town represented. Unfortunately gone are the days of an England team with more Town players than most other top league teams and a splattering across other sides. (sigh!!)

I wonder what this one will hold in store? The first one I can remember watching was Mexico 1970. England vs Brazil group game at ‘that save’, the German comeback in the quarter-final and the final in which Brazil seemed to play a different game to anything I’d seen before. If only Town could play that way!

There have been memorable moments in other World Cups, such as beating Italy in New York or O’Leary's penalty to name just two. Or there’s the other kind of memorable, Schumachers tackle, Germany 0 Austria 0 and, please God, not another hand of God moment!

I would just hope this year those moments are the good kind, not bemoaning injuries, disputed goals or the disappointment of yet another penalty shoot-out. There will be controversy, the press coverage will be get over the top, some nation will surprise everyone while another will flap badly. A good England performance would help, but as long as in the end the football is open and exciting I’d be happy.

And of course the TWTD Fantasy World Cup League reaching 200 with Kenoblues coming out on top would make it my fantasy World Cup!
