At All Costs?
Written by RaymondovicBlue on Monday, 30th Jun 2014 15:17

OK, so Luis Suarez is an amazing football player. But for his return to fitness and brilliance we might still be in the World Cup! ('might' is a big word).

But should 'three strikes and out' apply in football? Should anyone who has physically abused a fellow professional three times - and that's just the ones we have seen - ever be allowed to put on a football shirt again to represent club or country?

Can the game escape the 'money talks' mentality and so allow decency and honour to return at the top level and so it might one day filter down?

It beggars belief that talent and the desire to win at all costs takes precedent over fair play and respect for others. Diving, waving imaginary cards, pretending to have been fouled by a defender when in reality you have just sunk your fangs into them.

At least in the Norman Hunter days an honest tackle was just that - an honest tackle, everyone knew that the defender was trying to kick the striker off the pitch! Nowadays our standards are so low that we allow anything if we can get away with it.

Obviously there are many teams who would snap Suarez up if Liverpool decided that his smile didn't fit with their image, and I guess many Town fan would be screaming out for a player of his talent - but would Saturday night really taste sweet if the points came at the cost of principles?

I don't know all the answers, but I do enjoy some of the questions!

You've raised some good questions and I have seen the video several times, did Suarez bite the Italian? He was guilty by press sensationalism before being tried by his professional body. My own opinion for what it's worth is that it is possible for someone to have left teeth marks by it being a collision injury. Did Suraez bite? I don't think anyone can make a 100% decision based on what I have seen. Did Suraez try to headbutt?....I think he did and should have been red carded for that. As regards biting the jury is still out for me..........oh they can't be because he never had a fair hearing!!!!

The history of man is littered with cheating, duplicity and dishonour. On that basis I find it hard to believe that there was once a golden age where decency and honour reigned.

On one hand you seem to be defending over zealous tackles of Norman Hunter and then you attack todays win at all cost mentality. You can't have it both ways.

Personally I wouldn't care less if Town developed a reputation of being nasty card waving divers forever in the face of the referee if we had a winning team.

I guess for me, winning at all costs is acceptable.

Suarez has apologised for biting chilellini. Certainly did not look like a headbutt to me and as he's already bitten others it's hardly surprising that he's judged, especially when there is video proof.

When he eventually returns to playing the kop will welcome him like a hero!
There are no principles left not just football but life in general.
