Tractor Boy On A Mission - UPDATE
Written by wadey on Thursday, 4th Aug 2016 09:42

I have now decided to add two more challenges to my list. Yes, Four has become six! And the hardest one will now be my first: climbing a mere 3,718-metre high volcano!

On 1st April 2012, me and my partner Becky lost our beautiful son, Tyler. He was only 15 months old when he passed away peacefully in his sleep. Later that year, we began fundraising for a brilliant charity, The Lullaby Trust (formally known as FSID).

The Lullaby Trust is a charity that raises awareness and researches ways to try and minimise tragedies such as cot death, or sudden infant death syndrome.

Me, my girlfriend Becky and my Dad visited every football stadium in England from the Premier League to League Two, plus Wembley, Highbury and the Millennium Stadium. That's 95 stadiums and we completed this within five days. We slept in the car every night too, just to add the the challenge.

2013 came around and we needed a new challenge. We decided on another football stadium road trip but this time it involved all of the Scottish stadiums, plus a number of non-league English clubs. 58 stadiums in total, taking four days and once again sleeping in the car.

In 2015, I decided to mix it up a bit and decided on four events to complete. A 160ft bungee jump, a 10,000ft skydive, a 10km run and I took part in Movember.

Now I have started planning my challenges for 2016/17. I've put on a little weight so the choices I've made will also give me an added incentive to get fit, and raise money for this worthy cause.

The first challenge and I think the hardest (only time will tell), is to climb the highest peak in the whole of the Spanish territory. It is an active volcano located on the island of Tenerife, called Mount Teide.

It is also the tallest volcano in the whole of Europe at a staggering 3,718 metres high! I'm on holiday there in October so what better way to kickstart a relaxing break, than by climbing almost four kilometres towards the sky!

Number two is slightly less of a challenge, although by no means easy! I will be taking part in the 10k MoRun event in London's Greenwich Park in November.

My third challenge will be to complete an X-Runner Obstacle Race. I chose this event as it takes place on April 1st, which is five years to the day since my son passed away. And it will also give me an idea of what to expect in my fourth challenge.

That challenge is to complete a Tough Mudder event. This is going to be on the first Saturday in May. Yeah, they've started getting harder again! 12 miles of running and over 20 obstacles.... fun times for me!

Later in the year I will be climbing up the Yorkshire Three Peaks. These are the three tallest mountains in Yorkshire and the aim is to complete this with a 12-hour period.

This will also be a test run for my final, and biggest, challenge of the year, The National Three Peaks. The National Three Peaks are Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scaffel Pike in England and Mount Snowden in Wales (the three highest mountains in each country). The aim of this is to be done within a 24-hour period.

Mount Teide - 3,718 metres upwards

10k MoRun

X Runner Obstacle Mud Run - 10km

Tough Mudder - 12 miles & 20+ Obstacles

Yorkshire Three Peaks - 24 miles, up three mountains in 12 hours

National Three Peaks - 26 miles, plus 3000 metres vertical ascent.

As you can tell, I've really kicked it up a notch this time around and hope to raise as much as I possibly can. I really hope I have impressed you enough to make you want to donate.
