Blackburn is a massive game... 11:45 - Jan 8 with 3665 viewsITFCBlues

If we lose that, we're dragged right into the relegation scrap. Especially with the games we have for the remainder of Jan and then Feb - it's hard to see where we'd pick up many points...

If we lose we'll still likely be 5-6 points above the relegation zone with a number of sides sat between us and the bottom 3. Christ, our fans love to catastrophise at the moment.

Don't agree. We'll rumble through getting enough points to be fine, this season.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

If we lose there'd only be four points between us and Blackburn - admittedly one of Burton or Forest may lose too which would keep the 5/6 point gap as you say but that's still far too close for comfort.

Whereas a ten point gap is a whole lot nicer.

A 5-6 point gap to sides who are picking up on average around 1 point per game is still pretty decent. Agree I'd rather a 10 point gap but the OP is getting into flounce territory.

The problem is we have to keep inconsistent at best to keep our heads above water. If we lose the inconsistent form for the worse then we're in trouble.

There were shoots of recovery in the Bristol City and QPR games even if the latter didn't go our way. It's a shame that Lincoln has pushed us back again but hopefully we'll return to the previous two performances next week.

I agree, as it's hard to see us taking many points from the following games: Huddersfield and Preston away, Derby and Reading at home, and Villa and Brighton away. You can hear Mick now telling us what good sides they all are, and this time he would be right in most cases.

Not sure about that - I think it's reasonably to point out that the way we are playing, we could easily lose 3 or 4 in a row, and if we did, we would be in a relegation fight.

It's not dramatic though is it? We've a very difficult run of games coming up where it's hard to see us picking up many points...

But you're assuming we are going to lose and all the clubs below us are suddenly going to start winning

We're currently averaging 1.24 points per game. Over a 46 game season that would get us to 57 points. That's more than enough to see us safe. But we need to keep being inconsistent at the very least; we cannot afford to go on a losing streak.

I didn't assume we'd lose? I said if we did lose? There's a lot of difficult games coming as well - we've shown little sign of beating anyone half decent recently

We got eight points from the reverse of those six fixtures (LWWLDD), three of which were during that period when we couldn't score at all. I'm not so sure it'll be a whitewash.

Very likely. With a Lawrence goal (or maybe Pitman from a move started by him) separating the sides.

Did you actually read the OP. If we lose against Blackburn we will be in the sh1t, look at the fixtures coming up, not too many point will be accumulated. Any town fan thinking we won't get sucked into a relegation battle unless something changes is deluded, we can't even beat a non league side, conceded 2 and could of Ben much worse, how bad does it have to get for people to realise we have a battle on to stay in this division.

Something would need to change for us to be in a relegation battle though, we'd need to have a run of defeats (which hasn't happened all season) and the sides below us would also need to experience an upturn in form. If we carry on as we have been we'll finish safely in mid table. That's not even an opinion, that's simply a fact based on our form over the 25 games we've already played this season.

Although we've not had a run of defeats like that all season and predicting that we will on the basis of the Lincoln game seems rather knee-jerk.

It is dramatic. We've played 25 games this season and not had back to back league defeats yet, and we've played the sides you're so worried about us playing within those 25 games. There's not all that much between the sides at the top and bottom of this division, I'd have thought people would've realised that after 15 years but it seems not.

We need to put our opinions of the manager and his tactics/selections to one side during the game and get behind the team. You can't help groaning when players duff it up but please don't jeer/boo/chant against anything ITFC during the game. Leave it until the end.

Agree with this. I don't think it's purely coincidence that the best atmosphere at PR in a while came with the best performance against Brizzle.
