If NASA make some mega announcement about finding life on other planets etc., this afternoon or indeed at any point in the future, how will this affect religions ??

Discuss.

I doubt it will change anything.

The vast majority of religions and their followers already can live with their faith and accept the evidence for evolution, origin of the universe etc.

The minority of fundamentalists just won't accept it. So no change there either.

Edit: And I think we can safely assume there is life on other planets. Indeed possibly on billions of them throughout the Universe.

The fact that Trump believes NASA has made up global warming with the Russians, means if they did announce they found aliens (they haven't) he wouldn't believe them any way.

Religion being religion will find a way to argue that aliens are part of gods plan - or whoever plan it might well be. Making it up as you go along - religion in a nutshell. Or they'll want to blow up the aliens home planet.

In the same way dinosaur bones are he to "test us", they will find some ludicrous excuse.
Its a test, we are too feeble to understand his plan, it's a new place for us to live, it's fake, blah di blah ...

Nearly 40% in the US don't accept evolution. ...

I learnt the other day of something called 'Providential History', which is supposed to show how the Christian God directs everything, and the USA is his instrument.

How that explains the 10,000+ years of human history before the USA I would imagine isn't addressed in this 'theory'.

There's a brilliant chapter in one of Jon Ronson's books where he describes a Jewish group in Canada discussing whether to protest at a book signing by Icke because they thought he was using 'reptiles' as a metaphor for the Jews.

After reviewing his writings and some debate, they conclude he genuinely meant reptiles.

Is there something happening today I haven't heard of? Just looked at the BBC news site and I can't see anything there.
