The problem is, he is. It's just no longer the exceptional job it once was. He improved us 18 places in less than 3 seasons and dropped only one the season after.

It's pretty clear that not only did he save us, not only did he get us competitive, he got us back to being complacent about the fact we've gone back to being a lower midtable club flirting with relegation.

There's two distinct periods where we didn't do that and didn't climb the heights he has. One was the transition from Burley to Royle, then Royle to Magilton. Once Evans came in we reverted back to type, which is probably pretty normal for a Championship club, let alone over the span of 15 years.

The issue is whether that job is now considered "good enough". You can equally level that at Evans who has been here longer, and culpable for both extremes.

I think to say he improved us 18 places over 3 seasons is an exaggeration. Sure we were 24th when he took over and finished 6th in May 2015, but that is not comparing like with like. We were 24th after 13 games. That's a terrible run but it's not even a third of a season. The last full season before he came we finished 15th, so although extra credit can be given for pulling us out of the mire in 2012-13, we're basically back where we started again.

Looks like the BBC may have taken his comments out of context. According to Phil's story this morning, MM was asked a direct question about whether or not, in the wake of the latest round of managerial sackings in the Championship, he felt "fortunate" to be working for a more "patient" owner. MM said that rather than feeling fortunate, he felt he was still here on merit. But the beeb portrays his comments as arrogant, unsolicited boasting, which I don't think was the case this time. He was just answering a fairly condescending question at the presser.

Also of course we should look forward not back all the time .

Yes he saved us,yes he got paid a shed load of money for doing so good luck to him.

Yes we made the Playoffs great stuff .But since then we have been failing away and mostly playing piss poor football.

People dont usually walk away from watching football which they have been doing for years for no reason, like me they are piss bored of the dross and something needs to change.

Not sure why 2 people have down-arrowed this. What has Benters said that is wrong?

Nothing, he is right - Mick did do a good job getting us to the play-offs, however now we are roughly where we should be with our wages and expenditure.
However due to the boring football our attendances will continue to drop and therefore so will our finances, wages, expenditure and league position unless something changes.

You think a fact is an exaggeration because it's a bit inconvenient?
