Interview questions 16:53 - Apr 7 with 5673 viewsJon_456

Going to be interviewing some candidates for a new role at my work next week and want to get some decent questions in there. It's mostly office based and requires to work both in a team and individually.

What are the hardest questions some of you have either faced or asked others?

Some of the ones for entry onto the Creative Advertising course I did were quite tough...

If why met how what would happen to which?

I love my cat, make me want to eat it.

What does the future hold for jelly?

Why should you never underestimate a handsome bear ?

How would you make the world a better place?

And the toughest one of all..,

Why?

The last one presumably refers to what preceded it.

I accidentally read this thread while not logged in, so I can see your stupid post.

You, and your equally feckwitted uparrowers, need to learn to read.

Here's a clue: "course".

Depending what we were looking for we sometimes developed scenarios based on questions to check a candidates ability to think laterally.

A couple we used were, the candidate was asked to imagine being asked to project manage changing from driving on the left to right in the U.K. Another scenario was to imagine Edinburgh was built on a volcano and scientists had become aware that a major eruption was expected in days. The candidate was to project manage communication, evacuation etc.

Sounds weird but worked well.

What did you answer with may I ask?

They weren't the exact ones I was asked, it's a sprinkling of some from my application and some on the current one.

I did them 8 years ago, so the answer is I can't remember.

The course is quite famous in advertising circles - arguably the best. There's a huge number of current Creative Directors (the top job in what I do) who came through it. More than any other Creative Advertising course. Hundreds of people, from around the world, apply for the 15-20 spaces each year. I am the oldest, ever, to have done it.

I don't say this to show off.

I say it partly to rebuff the likes of Libero who say those questions aren't creative. They clearly are. You have to answer them in the most creative way to have a chance of being accepted on the course (there are other requirements).

I say it partly for the likes of J2 as well. Proof that you can do what you want if you want it enough. I was a shelf stacker at Tescos when I answered those. You call them pretentious in a thread where you admit you haven't achieved anything.

Are you going to spend the rest of your days sniping at people who are actually doing stuff... or are you going to actually do some stuff?

One which I found difficult to answer was 'how would your friends describe you?' but maybe the problem I had was the s that was added to the word friend.

Sniping? Why so thin skinned? I wasn't having a go at you. I just think those 'questions' are ridiculous. Nothing to do with being creative. They just seem stupid to me. That's my opinion. I didn't take any shot at you at all.

As for me I haven't achieved anything and quite frankly i've given up. I don't say that so you give me a pep talk or anything it's just a fact. I've applied for loads of jobs, none of which have been anything that great, and I still don't even get an interview. You'll now reply that i'm not trying hard enough and that you make your own luck or something similar. I'm just going to stop going on about my situation and accept it.
