I see he's finally been allowed to enter the general election fray, this is his contribution:

“Jeremy Corbyn is a benign herbivore” and a “mutton-headed mugwump”

Johnson is the archetypal Hooray Henry, Old Etonian playground bully.
He's supposed to be our Foreign Secretary, for christ's sake. Also, he was rude and incoherent when interviewed on Radio 4 this morning. Typical nasty, abusive, name-calling Tory.

He acts like a school boy. He should be nowhere near a position of power.

Herbivore is such a weird insult.

boris is playing to existing perceptions. he can't say 'Islington vegetarian' because vegetarians will get arsey - but 'herbivore' points at the same thing. equally he is going for an ovine image - something slow witted and dull - which he hits again with 'old muttonhead'. he is also, as someone else pointed out, going for the classic 'dead sheep' analogy.

don't under-estimate boris. he is popular. lots of people like his style. and with 'benign Islington herbivore' and 'mutton-headed old mugwump' he has come up with an image which resonates with many people's own perception and will probably be the thing that sticks with people longest during the election campaign.

He's the star turn at conference too. Well, after the PM probably, but it's close. But he was star turn even before he was in the cabinet and that's some feat.
