Why, oh why was this ninety-six year old snatched from us?

If he'd been Australian he'd have scored a century.

I liked Sallis though.

A century isn't a particularly good score in golf though.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

It would be par for me.

I've always like the clerihew about Don Bradman:

Sir Donald Bradman
Would have been a very glad man
If his average test score
Had been nought point six more
Than ninety-nine point nine four.

And me. But ignore the post above, I thought we were talking about Peter Allis

Yes, nice.

The Don was probably furthest ahead of all the competition in his generation and succeeding ones of any sportsman ever.

I like the Clem Attlee limerick too:

Few thought he was even a starter
There were many who thought themselves smarter
But he ended PM
CH and OM
An Earl and a Knight of the Garter.

Sadly missed, and Gromit will be devastated

Was Peter Sallis actually a Yorkshireman, Ryorry? I suppose I could read the obits to find out!

He was from Twickenham. His son, Crispian, has been nominated for the Oscar for set design on three occasions, for Aliens, Gladiator and Driving Miss Daisy.
