GB/DK - What's craic with the SNP? 10:49 - Jun 9 with 1300 views | m14_blue | Didn't see that coming, is this a crisis for Sturgeon? Is it people reacting against another independence referendum or a reflection on their recent performance ? [Post edited 9 Jun 2017 10:49]

In her ideal world it would have been an SNP landslide in Scotland and a Tory landslide in the rest of the UK. That would have been best for gaining support for independence.

Ruth Davidson has pitched herself very well as the voice of unionism up here and definitely detoxified the brand. If May hadn't fcuked up the manifesto we may have been looking at having 20 seats.

Angus Robertson losing his seat was the only prediction I got right.

After pretty much 7 solid years of Scottish and General elections plus Indyref and Brexit, I expect they want to see an end to the campaigning. So Sturgeon misjudged the mood irrespective of whether independence is or isn't the logical answer towards a long-term future. There also is more of a split in the centre-left/left vote with Labour's resurgence under Corbyn, which unfortunately opened the door for the Tories in a number of constituencies. That's annoying on one hand given how unpopular right wing politics are in Scotland overall, but on the other hand it's confirmation that if a party on a UK scale can reflect Scottish political values then independence becomes much less of an issue. As I've tried to say repeatedly on here, the driver behind the SNP's rise isn't ethnic nationalism as much as political self-determination. If a new UK political landscape brings that and the left is pushing the agenda as opposed to the right and even far right, then I'm definitely up for that as I suspect are many other Scots.
