Rather unfortunate headline in The Times on 09:15 - Jun 27 by BOjK
It is unfortunate because we have the right to evict foreign criminals at the moment and don't need Brexit to do it.
Indeed, we can and we do. And not just criminals. If people abusing their rights under freedom of movement (e.g. coming here without accommodation and any way of supporting themselves) they can be removed too.
The problem is that we try to deport people unlawfully, and that's when it hits the headlines. What we seem to be trying to do is exclude people from the right to a fair trial or appeal, either here in the UK or by making provisions for them to do so from abroad. The right to a fair trial has been a cornerstone of our justice system since long before the European Convention on Human Rights (which isn't an EU treaty in any case). If we take that away as May has been proposing (either with us in or outside of the EU) we'll all be the poorer for it.
The BBC making much of the Queen's 8% pay rise this year. And that she'll be be getting an extra 10% of the profits of the Crown Estate each year for the next 10 years.
