Benyu to Celtic........? on 20:12 - Jun 28 with 4440 views | DublinBlue84 | Any point in investing so much in the academy if we allow players to run down their contract? Seems like a waste of money to me, maybe we should abolish it? If he is such a good prospect why has this club allowed us to get to within a few weeks of the end of his contract before talking about a new one if the one year option on it is not so straight-forward to trigger. What's the point in bothering with an academy when we invest in the facilities and player development if we let such a prospect leave for a small sum because we left it too late to offer a longer deal. If we used that strategy then we'd probably lose every single one of our kids who ever impressed when they were out on loan because they'd come back at the end of the season and we could lose them, which is a weird sort of way means we'd be better off if they don't do too well on loan. We need the academy to work and produce players, long term this is the only way we can survive and compete due to the constraints of the current transfer market with inflated player prices. He won't go for nothing, the club will get compensation.

The compensation will be sweet FA. The thing is that there is no investment in the squad, already MM is saying that others will need to go before we bring people in, despite the fact we have barely brought anyone in and have seen quite a few players leave the club already over the summer. People say that the purse strings have been loosened but all that seems to have happened is that this year we're going to have a transfer budget paid for by having a smaller squad size and a lower wage budget, same amount of money, just split differently. The thing is that what is the point in sending youngsters out on loan to aid in their development if they do well, and then we cannot hold onto them because they leave on little more than a free, allowing youngsters to leave for big fees to improve the squad is one thing, but like this is another. It's crazy, as I said, best off not to send young players out on loan, that way we don't risk losing them because the club clearly shows it won't commit to these youngsters. Celtic must be laughing their heads off and what a clueless bunch run our club, who spends large amounts developing players, most of which never make it and drop into obscurity, and also letting the ones who might have a chance also leaving for nothing. It happens to every club, check out Salanke running down his contract at Chelsea and wanting to go to Liverpool. Would you accuse Chelsea of being a clueless bunch? Look at Man Utd,, letting Pogba go to Juventus and then buying him back for mega millions, plus they also let slip youngsters like Keane to Burnley. No club can ever keep every young player they develop happy while they wait to make the first team . it's modern football, agents being greedy, always looking for transfers so they can get their large cut of any deal and youngsters being persuaded that the grass is always greener at a bigger club. And yes, I do know that our grass isn't very green lately.

Yeah, there is, as per the Cheick Kourouma move here. The long delay before he signed was because Town wanted to seal an agreement with all his previous clubs before he signed. We also had to pay Shelbourne for Adam McDonnell and Dylan Connolly. Also Caolan Lavery's move to Kilmarnock broke down because they wouldn't pay the compensation we asked for.

He would have been released on a free but for his success at Aldershot last season. Had that upturn come before the final year of his contract I'm sure they would have offered him new terms earlier as they've done with other youngsters such as Emmanuel and Kenlock.
Benyu to Celtic........? on 21:13 - Jun 28 with 4039 views | itfcjoe | A shame, and not best from club who seemed to think the option we had in place was watertight and it obviously wasn't so lessons to learn there. Ultimately don't think it'll really matter, would rather have kept him but not going to lose any sleep over it

We need a set up where academy players see a future at our club and want to stay. Don't think any compensation is due as not going to another English club.

The vast majority do - that's why likes of Emmanuel, Kenlock, Dozzell. Morris, Nydam et al are tied down on long term deals. Benyu wasn't, because he wasn't worth one previously. A shame that he goes now but we've got plenty of young CMs

I don't even think you can call it an option can you? It can only be called one if it's in your hands, and it wasn't so therefore it's spin from the club. That's what frustrates me the most about this. How many other players do we have so called options on which are not really options? The fact the club put such a clause in that seems rather pointless now makes you ask serious questions about why it was the case.

Sounds like club didn't quite get option right, but obviously have with other Ines with more senior player like Gerken, Smith, Berra, Hyam and Chambers which have been triggered in last couple of seasons.
