Taylor not being offered a deal 15:18 - Jul 17 with 6754 viewsITFCBlues

Surprised, thought he'd be a good addition

Poll: Has our squad been improved this summer?

Indeed, thought he'd at least be offered a 1 year deal. As per the story, Mick is obviously happy enough that Spence/Iorfa can fill in at centre back, as can Knudsen (in a 3 mainly).

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

That is a surprise, to be honest. Thought it was a handy fit for all parties.

Chambers
Iorfa
Webster
Smith
Spence
Knudsen (has played at LCB)
Kenlock

Looks ample to me.

“We have brought in Jordan Spence and Dominic Iorfa in recent weeks to add to what we already have at the back,” the Town boss told the Club website.

Spence was already here, Emmanuel has gone so is replaced by Iorfa.

But in addition from last season, Berra has gone and now Taylor has gone ,and neither are replaced? Presumably all our remaining budget is going on two stop strikers...

Plenty of options indeed, just felt having Taylor around the place would have been a good thing.

Right, and I agree I have to say. Knudsen wasn't half bad when he had to step up. Save the cash and spend in on that striker we need!

I think he served a purpose when we needed it most. If we'd have lost Chambers I'd have been very disappointed to see Taylor go but we just don't need him do we.

I'm surprised, but think we do have enough there as per PotE's post below - and we aren't going to rotate that around much.

With no loan windows a couple of injuries would be a nightmare though as nothing really close to breaking through so would be players out of position.

Hopefully get a couple of strikers in soon, one that can play on the flank as a bit short there too

I wonder if we've got one or two coming through or some kind of cloths pressing device being ignited?

Watching him in the few games he did play. I thought he was excellent. He was more vocal than chambers, however the fear is we could have had another Coke situation and he may have been asking for more than we were willing to gamble.

I suppose Taylor might have wanted more certainty than we were willing to offer, so it might be no deal suits both parties?

I still think we're one CB short however, so wouldn't surprise me if we bring in another experienced CB in

Just far too injury prone.
Although he may have been a good influence around the dressing room we are not in the financial position to offer players contracts on that basis alone.

Might indicate we're definitely definitely not playing three at the back anytime soon (and it'll be Smith who's sitting out) so we have cover. If we were looking more at three/five at the back, I'd want another "proper" centre half rather than someone who could possibly do a job.

And also when we did play 3 at the back Spence and Knudsen did so quite well

"quite well" being the phrase, but if it's temporary then we *should* be OK...however if there's an injury (a la Webster last year), we're short in the long term.

Perhaps he hasn't convinced MM and his coaching staff about his fitness, but compared to any of those you have listed Pride of the East, Taylor is by far the best defender and adds a bit of quality.......if fit!

6 first team defenders is probably 1 too few. Bound to have at least 1 injured at any given time which means we only have 1 change option.

EDIT: ignore me, I cant count!

Think Webster is basically Berra replacement.

The concern for me is that there doesn't appear to be anything in the academy that could cover - unless perhaps Tristan Nydam can come in at left back.

The next centre backs in the queue are a long way back, and from all the whisperings I've heard from inside academy and from players Mick does not trust young CBs without game time behind them.

Just common sense as he's likely to spend more time on the treatment table then on the pitch.

I agree.

Liked the idea of him, but is money that could be better spent put towards a striker.
