I know nothing about music but my friend is a pro session muso and he said U2's rhythm section is the absolute worst and they have people help them out live. Hope this helps.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Some great names here already.
I would add Mark Brzezicki (Big Country and session drummer on The Cult "Love" album) who might be the best I've ever seen live in his heyday.
Also Stewart Copeland
And Ringo. Yes, yes, I don't care, I love how Ringo plays.
Great shout horsehollerer, but Stewart Copeland is American..................amazing drummer, absolutely amazing....................please pass me the sherry, dry of course. He also writes some wonderful pieces on keyboard......................honest!!!!!!!!
Clive Bunker was ok.

Sorry, but you simply cannot have Keith Moon in this list. A showman, yes, but technically inept and lacking any motoric skills.
Real top quality drummers:
Roger Powell - The Action/Mighty Baby/Habibiya Brian Bennett - Shadows/Mohawks/library sessionist Clem Cattini - Rumpelstiltskin/Frog/Tornados/library sessionist Barry Morgan - CCS/Blue Mink/Morgan Bluetown/library sessionist

There is a big difference with Keith Moon & The Who with other outfits though. The Who seemed to follow the drumming rather than the drummer following the rest of the band.
“Hello, I'm your MP. Actually I'm not. I'm your candidate. Gosh.”

Moon was initiative inasmuch as he didn't keep time and used the drums as a lead instrument doing his own thing.
