He's becoming something really special in the pool. WR in the 100m breaststroke a few days ago (he now has the 10 fastest times ever) and then 2 WR in the same day in the 50m breastroke (has the 5 fastest times ever).

Can watch the 2 WR in the same day at this link:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/swimming/40714957

He's the only person to ever go under 26 seconds for 50m and he's the only person under 57 seconds for the 100m and is aiming to get into the 56's soon.

Amazing stuff.

I've said for years that Football can learn a lot from Olympic sports and the way they operate. There are the obvious faults within the likes of British Cycling, British Rowing, British Swimming etc. but they are developing multi medal winning athletes every Olympic cycle.

How many Football clubs can claim any successful athlete transitions when they are splashing (in some cases) in 1 year, 10 times what these sports have as their 4 year budget.

Also, from experience working with Sport Science staff in some football clubs is like going back 10/15 years in how they operate. The efficiency and ways of working in Olympic sports has had to move forward to stay ahead of the curve (and be within budget) when football clubs continue the status quo with former players getting jobs as coaches, fitness coaches etc. and never really pushed to be innovative.

Football is still jobs for the boys.

I don't doubt Football can do a lot better

Budgets need to be compared relatively against competitors in the same sport.

English football in a particular has a knowledge/education problem compared to other countries, we have less qualified coaches per player.

We have been behind other countries tactically for quite some time.

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!
