In a 3- me too. I think Knudsen has a lot of qualities as a LCB in a 3.

But plan A for Mick is 442.

Smith is perfectly comfortable as an LCB in a back three. Don't forget that as a mere lad he shut out the Italian international team playing just that role.

Mick still has his 4 at the back if you see Webbio as a libero, he can sweep and we know how comfortable he is joining the midfield with ball at feet. This formation does require a bit of Dutch total football and not rigidity however.
