Indeed. Failed by one vote.

Did you see Pence and everyone trying to persuade McCain on the floor of the senate?

Makes this tweet rather lovely :)

Thos will come back again though, in an even 'skinnier' form

Haven't seen it yet, just following Guardian feed on phone.

Hilarious that Pence came to Chair session, so that he could get a casting vote, made a grand entrance, spent an age talking to McCain, then slunk away when McCain told him where to go.

That tweet from Trump is a doozy (as i think the Americans say...) Better screenshot it now because it's sure to be deleted!

Some of the US analysts are saying Trump's tweet to the Alaskan senator threatening her and her state probably lost it, as she was most likely to turn.

Hopefully they can find a true solution to healthcare for these poorer Americans, not this rich man's tax break Turtle Neck was trying to push through.

And of course Trump previously said this about 'hero' McCain

Failed by 2 votes wasn't it? 49 to 51?

Technically one, as if a 50/50 split, Pence casts the deciding vote.

Pence was waiting to cast it and had to skulk off once McCain popped the knife in as he couldn't vote. 3 reps voted against.

I know it was 49/51, but if it was 50/50, the bill would have passed. So, the Republicans were 1 vote away which is where i was getting at.

If McCain had not turned up it would have been 49 to repeal, 50 to keep.

With him voting to keep, it was 49 repeal to 51 keep.

Had he voted with his party it would have been 50 to 50 and Pence as Vice President can take the Chair and place a casting vote.

So Trump lost by one (of three) Senators not voting with the Party.

Revenge is a dish best served cold. trump once observed of McCain that he preferred war heroes who didn't get captured.

This is worth a read

A casting vote should, in all votes be used to defeat a change so that the motion can be put again, which is perfectly logical and right. Not the sort of nicety that bothers trumpy-wumpy.

By the way, does anybody on here still think he's great?

Trump wumpy is upset

Typically, he now wants people to suffer, rather than find a way to help the poor and uninsured

Could & can't ever understand a nation that doesn't want decent health care - apart from the fact some could get very rich (going to happen here) on the American system.

I like how these pricks are always 'pro-life' when it comes to people with no quality of life or collections of cells in wombs, but not when it comes to say, rape victims, poor people or people from ethnic minorities.

It's also pretty bloody disingenuous of him to be equating an indpendent judiciary with 'the government'.

It's not disingenuous, it's ignorance. He is really stupid, but at least his election pushes the brexit vote into second place as 'most ignorant piece of voting 2016'.

My favourite thing this week is seeing wingnuts the world over using the Gard case as proof that universal/socialised healthcare is A Bad Thing, whilst ignoring the fact that without it, the poor little b*gger wouldn't have lasted this long as he'd have either been denied care on the 'pre-existing condition' grounds or the costs of 9 months' worth of level 3 care would have bankrupted his parents long before it got to this point.

An interesting piece in this week's Private Eye. The torrent of pieces in the daily mail about brave little Charlie are all written by the same journalist. Except she isn't a mail journalist. She's the media agent and spokeswoman for the Gard family.

I wonder which newspaper has paid the Gard family a six figure sum for their story.....?
