Not as good looking. What was happening when Garner was on his back next to the goal and their player was stopping him getting up? The ref missed all that! In fact the ref missed a lot of incidences that should have warranted cards.

Ryorry suggested that it was their wedding night, the defender was certainly intent on keeping Garner on the floor.

Only because he's scored a last minute winner and dived in to the away end.

To be fair to the ref, I thought he had a good game. With Joe Garner, he's always going to try and con the ref to get niggly little fouls and that's why he's hated so much by the opposition, and why I hated him so much when we played against him. Now I love him, but I do see how he can be wind the opposition up and ref just ignores it as it happens so often.

That's even worse than the rugby tackle on McGoldrick at Luton that wasn't a foul either.

I Bloody love Joe Garner on 09:27 - Aug 14 with 3661 views | Superfrans | As I'm yet to see Waghorn this is based on little more than video of his goal on Saturday and the comments of people who have seen him - together with what I've seen of the others. But... It seems that we now seem to have accumulated a really decent little group of strikers (McGoldrick, Sears, Garner, Waghorn) who won't give opposition defenders a minute's peace and who look capable of clinically picking off chances when they come up. The three goals we've scored in the league already this season have been really decent quality finishes, players getting themselves in good positions, timing their runs perfectly. All very promising.

The defender was extremely lucky that the referee was running in the opposite direction.

The old firm has religious reasons behind it, ours if different. Ours is purely kinship and territory. A bit like the war of the roses, only there are only 2 towns in our war. That to some takes a lot of getting used to.

Agreed. Although we also thought this when we had Murphy, McGoldrick, Sears & Pitman. I guess the key is keeping them all fit so they all keep each other on their toes. Also worth pointing out that Pitman didn't suit our style of play whereas all of the current group do. [Post edited 14 Aug 2017 12:25]

With regards to your last point, bang on. It become more and more evident that Pitman was only ever used in the Mings deal as a 'sweetener'. Mick even admitted himself it was Fraser we wanted permanently (and presumably asked for in the Mings deal). Whilst we was getting a very good striker in return, he just didn't suit us or Mick at all. As you say, the 4 we have now suit us perfectly. I read on tw@tter earlier someone still thinks we require a target man ... have they not seen Garner play for the last 3 games?

I don't get this whole 'we still haven't replace Murphy' lark. People just look at a players height & make assumptions. Anyway, Murphys heading wasn't his strongest point, it was all the other stuff like hassling defenders, winning set p;ays high up the pitch to release pressure & just being a nuisance etc which is what Garner does.

Agree on Murphy. The likes of Garner and Waghorn appear to be an attempt to replace Murphy's workrate and closing down. In reality, he brought much more to us by chasing down defenders, putting pressure on them, than by acting as a target man. Pitman had high workrate but seemed to be the kind of player who wanted to be the focus of an attack, rather than being one of a team. We now seek to have four teammates, all working for the same cause.

It's just something to moan about. Whether it is based on any fact is irrelevant

I don't really like this 'target man' label, I prefer focal point. Every teams needs a focal point, not a target man. [Post edited 14 Aug 2017 13:36]

Since no official can have been watching that go on, Garner should have applied a swift knee to the happy sack. That would've learned 'im.
