Just goes to show - assuming those allegations are true/correct - that a leopard never changes its spots!

Banks are only out to serve themselves, their owners, shareholders, not their customers.

Wouldn't be surprised if a similar thing happened/is happening in the UK too.

All companies with shareholders are there to deliver shareholder value. It is their purpose.

Of course delivering for their customers is usually part of delivering sustainable shareholder value, but it is the shareholder value that is the purpose. It's not a bank thing. A bank is no more a public service than a shop that sells dishwashers....or one that sells cars.

"After JPMorgan’s deceitful activities in the housing market helped trigger the 2008 financial crash that cost millions of Americans their jobs, homes, and life savings"

And there was me thinking that it was all caused by naughty old Gordon Brown

How exactly did you come to that conclusion?

Was a direct response to a poster saying that banks don't put customers first. Nothing more, nothing less.

Given the objective to deliver shareholder value, the rule of law becomes all the more important to ensure it is done in the right way.

Do you not find it slightly strange that the main complainant had no issues purchasing 160m+ worth of distressed mortgages for 200k?

He would have stood to make x800 profit from peoples distressed mortgages if they were repaid. Hardly seems like a sterling chap.

If the article is correct then JP Morgan have no defense, operational risk mistakes/possible fraud on that level should clearly be punished. Securitisation is commonplace though and used by all manor of companies, seems JP Morgan went further and actually fully sold on the mortgages and then misbehaved with the subsequent payments. Hopefully there will be a proper investigation to determine the truth and punishment if applicable.
