Think you have to go further back than that, but thought similar a couple of weeks back listening to Michael Hesletine being eminently sensible on Andrew Marr (or similar). If the UK was a football club we would ask Ken Clark and Michael Hesletine to step in as caretaker managers until we could find someone suitable. The absence of sane voices like his shows the state that the Conservatives and indeed UK politics has gotten itself into. Currently, government policy and the UK's future is being decided by careerists looking to mimic the views of people beyond the centre right.
