How about realistic levels of tax for those with seven figure incomes?

One that ensures that all income - whether salary, bonuses, share options etc - is subject to a minimum of 60% for those receiving a seven figure salary. Boardroom income is obscene.

The top 1% of earners in the UK pay 27% of the entire income tax take in the country. Someone on 75k a year literally pays the salary of a nurse in tax. the problem isnt with the amounts generated, it's with hos those amounts are used.

I tend to think it's with those who don't fall under PAYE and are able to use various dodges to avoid tax.

I know it matters less on massive salaries but i'm not really comfortable with the government taking more than 50% of someone's income in taxes. I'll never be anywhere near a seven figure income but it seems wrong to me.

Even 50% means you spend six months of the year working for charity. I think that's enough for anyone.

So you are saying that it is wrong to pay nurses? Edit: and if that isn't a typo in your final line when you are thinking about nurses you should be even more ashamed of that than your reprehensible avatar. [Post edited 17 Oct 2017 11:49]

The highest rate of tax reached 99.25% in WW2, reduced slightly after the war and dropped to 75% only in 1971.

Tax is a percentage, they are reasonable levels. Why should people pay a higher percentage rate if they earn more? I thought you were about fairness for all?

It's also a principle of taxation that you do not waste your time trying to get income from sources that are almost devoid of the ability to pay. The super rich can always set up adequate charity schemes to lift the poor out of poverty if they want to head off HMRC at the pass .
