Binners 08:55 - Oct 19 with 6116 views | 26_Paz | So, I've been perusing the sister botherers' message boards to judge their mood ahead of Sunday and they refer to us as 'Binners'. Anyone have any idea why they do this?

Binners on 09:01 - Oct 19 with 6076 views | MattinLondon | Think our pitch -before it became used for football - was used for rubbish disposal. Or it has something to do with an old episode of Lovejoy. Either way, historically a canary has only been useful when dead, so balls to them.

...the late Warren Clarke was the dustman. Sporting a Town baseball cap. Spoke however in a broad northern accent? You can source the episode still on UKTV/Play. Called 'Bin Diving'

Played by the normally effective Warren Clarke, that episode was one of his few off days but, rather like a Ginafranco Zola backheel resulting in a goal against them, they chose this as one of their few golden moments.

I thought it was because some Town lads gave a bin a kicking at Carrow Rd a few years ago, then put it on facebook.

They can't even come up with an insulting nickname without it being tinpot.

Presume "scum" is in the upper echelon of insults then?

This is exactly what I thought until I saw someone reference the Lovejoy thing a year or so ago.

Back in 2002 or 2003 they used to try and stir TWTD up with the Binner thing and couldn't understand why they usually got a reply along the lines of 'Quite like binmen, very useful people' before they slithered off or someone called Ghostbusters. Not sure if it was a re-run of 'Lovejoy' around that time that started it off or whether it had been around pre-web (just) in the 1990s. Nowhere near as amusing as the 'proctologist' wars.
