Not really.... why should parents who play by the rules get stung by the higher prices, while those who save the money get away with it?

Those who break the rules are selfish... when their kids return to school, they require special attention from the teacher to help them catch-up, so the rest of the class miss out.

It's an idiotic rule. We abide by it purely because my missus is on the board of governors, but otherwise I'd sack it of happily. What you say is incorrect. Kids don't require special treatment after a week on holiday any more than they do after a week off Ill.

I don't believe that is true, every child is different and that should be what things are worked out on - not a rule which was likely calibrated to the average lowest denominator in the system. Kids are frequently off ill for a week or more but that's fine and they certainly don't need virtual private tutoring from the teacher to catch-up.

I was also referring to the holidays in term time rule itself, nothing to do with parents getting stung - the rule itself shouldn't exist unless parents are being hugely unreasonable.

Same as you. Mrs SWGF is a governor so we can't be seen to do it but what is a kid losing by (for example) taking the last few days off before a school holiday? Everyone's winding down by then in any case. Could save some families a lot of money. A fair few of SWGF Jnr's mates do it; some a day or two, as above, whereas some have a fortnight family holiday in the middle of term.

An odd couple of days at the end of the summer term isn't going to make much difference, but people taking the pee and taking a whole fortnight off is.

Although thinking about it, the more people comply with the regulation, the more the holiday companies will put their prices up - so actually it is worth allowing it as the demand becomes more spread out.

Agree re: timings/duration. There's one Dad I know who works his absolute nuts off, 7 days a week and seemingly 24hrs a day. He takes his kid out of school one day early so he can get away presumably a few hundred quid cheaper. Don't begrudge him. The ones that took their four kids out of school for a fortnight at Disneyland might have saved a bundle, but they could have afforded it at peak times, I'm sure...
