We don't have a 'star'

Look back over past seasons. whether it was Williams, Cresswell, Murphy Fraser, Lawrence

This season, we just don't have one. Now i'm not saying Murphy etc was a star player, BUT that season alone he was as were all others for a particular season.

What we have is a squad of 20 average players being run by a manager who doesn't know how best to use them.

There's no style, no real set up for me and It feels as players walk out, they themselves are going to try and play football without really knowing how they are actually playing football.

I think not having a 'star' would be way down on our list of problems.

How many points/goals did Bart save us?

Using your logic then he's a star & he's in the team each week therefore we have a 'star'.

Celina has to be one if he starts.

We needed him on earlier in the game against Norwich. You could see he has the quality and the confidence to take people on and make things happen.

i get that

but, and by the way im not saying we should have spent £££££

what i'm getting as is the squads failings are more so this season as we don't have that outfield 'star' who can turn a game or save points for us with a mazy run or a 30 yard cracker.

Just think how much worse last season would have been without lawrence.

To be fair, I think what you're talking about is a talisman, rather than a star. Someone who can spur the team forward creatively when we're a bit a bit flat.

For much of this season, that player has been McGoldrick, who has been in excellent form - or perhaps Garner, who is an old fashioned, put-himself-about centre forward.

Fact is neither of them really sparked yesterday, for whatever reason. The shame is that the only player who has consistently played above himself in our most recent derbies is Knudsen.

I would rather have 3 players performing consistently well (Garner, Waghorn, McGoldrick) which they have done, bar yesterday, as oppose to relying on a 'star'

Celina is supposedly that man, but he needs a chance. 13 minutes against a rival when we're losing is criminal.

If he's not the man we will get a different prem loanee in Jan I suspect.

There is far too much expectation being weighed on to Celina's shoulders.

He's very talented - but he's a long way from being even close to the type of player Lawrence was able to be last season.

Of course, I know a lot of people will blame McCarthy for that. But this is the same manager who got the best out of Lawrence (who still hasn't scored for Derby, in 11 games) and who Lawrence praised for doing so much for him.
