Several people have nailed it in their comments in the aftermath yesterday. It is desperately sad but we have lost all purpose. We ain't going up, we ain't getting into the play-offs. We probably won't go down in all honesty.

We're reduced to solely looking forward to playing a side twice a year, which over the last decade, have completely had the hex on us and quite frankly don't ever look like beating again at the moment, while clinging on to past glories as a stick to beat them with and knowing the truth hurts that they are simply a far better side. And McCarthy's post match comments were just typical run of the mill post match comments and hinted at feck all passion or ambition.

Getting sick of hearing 'we matched them up to the goal', 'We'll give it our best shot' 'We'll see where we are in a couple of months'. We are seeing teams join our division from leagues one and two, sailing above us while managing to attract half decent players on similar or lower budgets (often playing decent football into the bargain) while we stagnate and stagnate.

It's boring the tits off everyone. People said yesterdays atmosphere was the quietest known for a home local derby. It's hardly any wonder. The hope, excitement, anticipation and pretty much everything has had the life sucked out of it by a succession of shocking decision after shocking decision, and a reluctance to correct it.

And we as fans are going through the seven stages. Denial has gone, anger has dissipated and we are just left with acceptance and a sense that this club is frankly dying on its arse as a product and there is nothing we can do about it.

very well said, GB. This is where the local press should be hammering Evans and MIlne with front page questions - the same way they hounded Magilton out of a job - and asking them what thier intentions are for a once proud football club.

That website is like the internet version of our club at the moment. Pretty sure that's what it looked like in 2005.

"A dull non-entity".

Not having that. We're a family-friendly club with a proud history that's been home to some of the greatest footballers and managers in the country, which just happens to be going through a dull patch.

Bl00dy feathered upstarts. A few years battling relegation in the PL and they think they're Bayern Munich.

I understand your anger and the rebuttal of sympathy from such a quarter, but it did speak of a "lost generation"; and, given that another thread this evening regarding the last really significant game Town played came down to general agreement that it was in 2000, then sadly, it's not so far wrong.

Every respect for our great managers, both departed this scene, and the "family-friendly" club they helped build and which has been the sporting background of so many older supporters. But the pricing structures, set against the general level of wages and costs in this town outside the really prosperous South East, and such miserable club miscalculations as that aged 60-65 fiasco has long since consigned the family-friendly bit to romantic history.
