Opened his first restaurant in London in 1981. I can only imagine in horror what the standard of restaurant food was like in the UK in the early 80s. Now it's all 100 quid bangers and mash.

To be fair, his restaurants are pretty awful. The last lasagne I had in one was like a 'cook from frozen' Tesco Value product.

That comment is interesting because I have eaten in several of his restaurants & never had a bad meal in any of them in fact I regard his as one of the best eatery chains in the UK.

Agreed. Overpriced, small portions and tasteless.

Visited the one in Cambridge and in Bury and both were awful.
