Off to Tallinn next week, and going to get the ferry across to Helsinki as part of the same trip. - Haven’t done any research at all; any recommendations of things to do whilst out there or mainly places to drink?

Will be missing our game v Wednesday but wondered if anybody knows any places I could catch a sight of it out there (Tallinn) as it’s on Sky?

Cheers!

Visited Tallinn early last year and loved it, spent 90% of my time in the Old Town so would recommend that. Also took a trip to the zoo with the anticipation of seeing their Polar Bears but the conditions they're kept in left a lot to be desired and the novelty soon wore off! The Tallinn TV tower gives great views and is about a 15 min drive out of the city!

There's an Irish bar called the Dubliner that i'm pretty sure had Sky Sports so may be a good bet for the game!

Enjoy!

Thank you very much! Our hotel is literally in the middle of the Old Town, so that sounds positive! Thank you for the tips, appreciate it.

I was in Tallinn watching England a couple of years ago. We spent a few hours in the Depeche Mode Bar - it is just a bar dedicated to Depeche Mode, which plays their music constantly. Helps if you're a fan, but it's a quirky place for a pint in any case.

I remember the bars right on the main square being a rip off - double the prices of anywhere else.

The local speciality is something called long drink. It's a gin and grapefruit combination; like an alcopop, but less sweet.

Also, the airport gift shop sells tins of bear meat.

From my recollection, drinking in Tallinn was about half the price of drinks in Helsinki - that's why so many Finns take the ferry for a "booze cruise". Although I had heard that Estonia were planning to increase their duty on alcohol.

Great idea, I did it a couple of years ago (the other way around). Google craft beer bars in Helsinki and you'll find some wonderful places - there is one in the main shopping area and another next to the main rail station, both highly recommended. Hit Helsinki's little indoor fish market next to the port for a different street food lunch experience.

Oh, and a nose around the Best Western hotel just 100m from the ferry terminal in well recommended - it is a converted 19th century prison, so cells are hotel rooms now! It looks like the set of Porridge.

Tallinn? A bit kitsch for me, too much tourist tat. But still a few decent bars around the edge of the centre.

Enjoy seeing Finns struggle to cope with the demands of a proper booze cruise too!

I absolutely HATE YOU right now! Tallinn I would LOVE to visit. I did have a flight booked there years ago, however Ryanair pulled the plug and I ended up going to Faro - did go up to Lisbon and see Benfica though. You'll have a time!

Been told if you get the ferry to St Petersberg as part of a fun triangle, you get a FREE Russian tourist visa for 2 days.....

a bar called 'hell hunt' had a good vibe about itself when i was in Tallinn a few years ago, brewed its own beers and had home cooked food. There was another pub that brewed its own but was more of a medieval theme pub complete with buxom wenches serving you flagons of mead and what not. Both easy to find in the old town. Good fun but a gimmick. There was an sports bar a bout a mile or 2 out of the old town that showed all the football and was dirt cheap, if i recall the name I'll post it here. Plenty of good food and drink choices in the old town there when i was there (about 2010) I'd imagine it's improved since too. There are a lot of interesting food choices. My brother had moose vindaloo one night and wild boar on another

Did that same trip a while back. Helsinki’s really cool city, if rather expensive. It’s a great place to walk around. From the ferry terminal you could explore the quayside, the cathedral area, and the city centre, before continuing north, mainly through parkland and past lakes, to the famous Olympic Stadium. It’s worth going to the top of the Olympic Tower for the view. If you’re into classical music, the Sibelius sculpture and Finlandia Concert Hall are also en route.

After that, you can splash out for a drink! Enjoy.

Moose vindaloo. A business opportunity for a regular poster £15.99 per serving.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

When I did this a few years ago the only ferries towards Helsinki were either at 7am or in the evening. As has been mentioned, they tend to travel towards Tallinn in the morning full of Finns stocking up on booze.
