It's sad that the default response to a crisis isn't sympathy for people in need, but instead is an immediate look to discredit and look for blame.

If they're lying that also means they need help. When did people get so stingy that they begrudge other people eating?

I agree. Just to be clear I was simply acknowledging that some people might be lying because I know how the argument will go. If 1% are frauds, 100% can't be trusted. I completely disagree. It's a shame we can't erase Black Friday and change it to Giving Friday. Such small amounts make such a big difference to so many.

Strictly speaking Jobcentre staff are not allowed to refer claimants to food banks. They 'signpost' them. Fortunately staff on the ground are more helpful, knowing the terrible consequences of this government's disgusting attitude to those they condemn to this extreme poverty.

Aye, wasn't addressing you personally just the point raised. Redistribution of wealth and food my friend! Plenty to go round for us all.

Please give generously on 17:01 - Nov 19 by FrowsyArmLarry | I know people who have gone to the trouble of selling their house, the husband ‘disappearing’ abroad with the money while the wife goes into a refuge until getting a council house. Then the husband returns (skint obviously). So yeah, I wouldn’t put anything past anyone |
Are you in a non descript looking apartment block in St Petersburg ?

That's a crime, prosecutable under either the relevant SS legislation, or the Theft Act. As you could report this crime email anonymously, nobody would know it was you. If you don't want to report people for fraud, don't complain about it. And to stop you asking, I've had people imprisoned for benefit fraud. [Post edited 19 Nov 2017 18:39]

To be fair I’m going back to 2012. I also don’t know whether the husband returned or not... he wouldn’t be the first Pakistani guy I know to go to visit family without telling his wife he’s actually getting married
