Too hard for me and I'll have a go at lots of things. I had a wet room done a few months ago, I watched how it was done. Setting it out was a job in itself, getting things level another. I'd try and find another tiler if I were you. |  | | |

Start off with a straight run down the middle, so they end up looking true to the eye when you walk into the room (which is not necessarily the same as square to the walls). Then work outwards from that.
Yes, they will be difficult to cut without a power tile saw (angle grinder will be difficult to get neat). [Post edited 21 Nov 2017 12:19]

Had a heck of a job getting hold of ordinary, flat, shiny white 200mm sqare tiles to finish off something a few weeks ago. Everything nowadays is oblong and knobbly. | |

Very easy to do tiling badly.... very easy indeed
And then you get plenty of time to look at your handywork ....and regret and regret and regret
Getting the tiles to sit with even groutlines and sit flat and level with their neighbours is ver' ver' tricky
I have done a few floors, and they are not easy at all
You can buy a half decent wet tile cutter for less than £100, the correct way to cut tiles and set to exactly as Mr Guthrum has indicated

What got me about tiles when renovating in 2013 was that I had to search for days both in t'internet and in person to find any tiles that weren't magnolia - ie pastel and bland to the point of yeurggh. No shortage of bold colours and variety when last renovated (same Yorkshire location 1994) but had to travel a roundtrip 100 miles to find deep blue, dark green & burgundy tiles this time - and they were standard size rectangles, rather than the large squares which I wanted for bathroom & shower room. |  |

little tip - lay them in a brickwork pattern so joints are staggered. that gets you out of having slightly stepped joints |  | | |

With local on this one. It's a room you have to look at every day so any minor cock up and you will notice it for the next ten years. Tiling is a specialist job for a reason
Being a tradesman I've seen it many times. People spend a fortune getting a room done and then spoil it by saving money and doing a bit themselves

In that case, I'd suggest lifting them yourself, making the floor as good as possible. Leave the plinths off the kitchen. Engage a tiler to lay the new one and then get your kitchen fitter back to fit the plinths with the new floor in place.
We did the same last year as we didn't want to select the floor until we'd lived with the kitchen for a few weeks. |  |

I have done my own kitchen and hallway a few years ago. Pleased with the results but my knees are now knackered.
Also did my son's new kitchen fairly recently - more pressure but again pleased with the results.
I am no major DIYer so it is doable - but was very time-consuming as I was a complete novice. |  |

Look for someone else but check to ensure they have the ability to set the floor out as you want it and that they have necessary equipment to cut stone. Otherwise you may end up with a bunch of offcuts, damaged stone & a big bill | | | |
