Now we know Whatever Happened To One Of The Likely Lads.

That was great TV.

I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but his final score was 79.

Good comedy. A real shame that it turned sour with Bolam.

Shame to hear about his passing - even bigger shame about the split with James Bolam and that they never spoke again.

Great comedy with plenty of social comment about class.

RIP timeless comedy. When losing 3-2 to Germany was the end of the world, and your marriage

Oh, what happened to you?
Whatever happened to me?
What became of the people
We used to be?

Didn't know they'd fallen out so badly. How incredibly sad.

They haven’t spoken since 1976 after Rodney Bewes mentioned James Bolan’s wife was pregnant in an interview.

Agreed both were very good but the original series filmed in B&W somehow captured the age of the apprentices and dark factories an age I was part of.
I confess to liking many of the B&W films which I find very atmospheric=Old age I s'pose?

And James Bolam (with an 'm') refused to allow repeats of either series and that really annoyed Bewes as it would have meant a 'wage' of about £4000 an episode.

Bolam, of course, went on to star in several other things such as When The Boat Come In, Grandpa In My Pocket and New Tricks. I don't think Bewes ever did anything of note.

Bolam sounds like a nasty bitter man, seemed like he looked for excuses to kick off.

Yeah I know it's Bolam. Unfortunately the M being next to the N and fat fingers on an iphone always causes me problems. That's why I always type if when I mean of.

Although a bit of trivia for you: James Bolam and Marc Bolan used to share a flat together in the 1960's.

Does sound very dog-in-manger of him.

Thanks for the info, GB and BB.

I have followed this debate for years because I always felt sorry for Rodney.

I agree, he is either a very bitter man or something else happened. I always wondered if Rodney gave his Mrs one.
