Phil - cheeky, but can you pin?? I know a fair few of us are interested in chatting about this as well as ITFC.

To kick start - series predictions?

I am going Australia 2-3 England.

Vince's response to Hazelwood's throw at him was brilliant - two boundaries with classic drives. That's the way to do it!

This has been a very good response.

Only three pacers for Aus. Knacker them out. If one breaks down they are screwed.

That's the first hour finished and it's Englands hour. The Aussies after getting Cook early would've wanted a couple more by now but Vince and Stoneman have looked both confident and assured. Starc's breakthrough was nothing more than early hope but since then it's been the Barmy Army in full voice whilst England's batsman progressed. A beautiful cover drive to the biundary was followed up with a flick through mid wicket on the next ball as Vince scored consecutive fours.

37-1

Really surprised how slow the wicket is, both players look like they have plenty of time when facing Pat Cummins, certainly tells a story and suits us much better than the normal fare the Gabba serves up.

Vince playing well, Stoneman looks okay too. Pitch is quick enough but not that bouncy and seems fairly true. See out the next 10 overs with no issues and we could land a big first innings.

It tends to get quicker on days 2 and three at the gabba than day 1

Which is weird

If the first hour was good for England, hour two is great for England. No wickets lost whilst Stoneman and Vince have looked a very asssured partnership in the middle. Stoneman has alley Vince score runs at a good rate whilst he's happy to stick around and let the shine just slowly fall away over by over.

59-1

Morning Ryorry - hope all is well with you. Are you planning a long session with the cricket tonight?

Morning TLA - I am! Did try a quick kip on t'sofa after midnight, but too much adrenalin rushing round & didn't get a wink - losing the early wicket didn't exactly help ...

Just been making grub, & mutt is about to get late pee-time.

Exactly that. Lots of pitches get quicker on days two and some into three. Groundsmen will keep more moisture in the pitch to start with so if doesn't dry out too quickly and to give the bowling side something to work with on the first morning, at least.

What a pleasant surprise to wake back up after a few hours and see we haven't lost a wicket (albeit a bit of a rain break) 100 partnership between Stoneman & Vince, 103-1 and putting a few overs in the legs of these Aussies quick's already, be a shame to see any of them break down!

Ditto!

And then to see Paine drop a clear nick off that over-cocky scrote Lyon- now that is funny!

126-1 That will do very nicely indeed!

Whereas 127-2 is still very good.

Well-played the Dry-StoneWallMan.

Shame just before tea but definitely got a good ball, tailing back a bit. Really impressed with Stoneman, goes about his businesses in a very unflappable manner. Lyon has bowled well plenty of turn and bounce, Moeen could be extremely important with 4/5 lefties in the Aussie team.

He's so calm that he doesn't seem to struggle with any occasion.

He's not technically brilliant like some players who've played for England over the last few years but the difference that puts him in the side, without a doubt, is that his temperament could not be any better.

145/3 now, if it stays 3 down it has t been a bad day.

I’d take a draw first match, the public will get on the Aussies straight away.

Morning all. After the town game (bit disappointed, but better than usual on TV) i decided to sleep through and let the kids wake me up to catch up with the inevitable apocalypse of wickets already taken by tea. Pleasantly surprised at that point. Thought Vince looked good til the runout which was, if unnecessary, at least brilliantly taken. I don't buy Lyon as the alpha male on the pitch but he looks bloody keen. Bowling well now, too. Malan needs to try and get his feet moving, be positive.

Roots just gone. This could spell trouble.

BM (girl, three and a bit), likes the swimming pool. E (boy, one and a bit) seems to think its a waste of time. He thinks everything that isn't Rastamouse is rubbish though. We all agree that Graham Swann is a knob though. His comments to Gilchrist may have been "banter" but the man has won World Cup finals on his own.

This is what life is all about. Happy days.

The problem with scoring slowly and having wickets in hand is that once wickets go down the score looks a bit rubbish. We've probably lost wickets at regular enough intervals to keep Australia interested. 182/2 now and the crowd would be getting frustrated.

Really want to get past 350 here.
