To kick start - series predictions?

I am going Australia 2-3 England.

🚨WICKET!🚨

This is now a full scale collapse from our middle order. Bairstow out for a quack trying to smash a ball over cal corner. Instead it goes straight up and the wicket keeper gets round to take the catch when it finally came down from space. Ball in now but it would be a surprise if he can survive this onslaught. We are now in huge danger of scoring less than par.

270-8

Morning guys - woke up after couple of hours' kip to find us about to bowl. Unpleasantly back to bad old days of England middle order collapso! cheers for the excellent comm to catch up with!

All gone!

It feels 60 or 70 short, which is what you'd expect at the very least from Cook, Root and Bairstow.

We need Warner and Smith to struggle in a similar way. I always expect Warner to get a ton, and pretty quickly.

7-1. That will do.

A similar dismissal to Cook's yesterday. Now let's get Warner before his neck loosens.

Gotta take mutt out for pee first, so it'll be 25 - you can blame him if no 2nd wicket before then ;)

Morning Ryorry - our batting obviously suffers without Stokes and his absence puts more pressure on Moeen and Bairstow.

Broad is bowling really well, and pretty quickly too. We need at least another wicket soon because they could be batting at a good time once the ball gets older.

It's so rare these days for openers to put on a big partnership. So often teams are 2 or 3 down for less than 100 but then the middle order has a couple of good sessions.

You're right about Warner's neck!

Morning TLA. Wonder if police dealing with Stokes are cricket fans & might fast track his case?!

Posted a few weeks back that I fancied Moeen to make a big impact in the right sort of way in the series. Instinctively, am not so sure about Bairstow - which some around me in Yorks might consider positively traitorous!

Bairstow has been excellent for a while now - I genuinely think playing with Moeen and Stokes takes the pressure off each of them but in this match, there is more pressure on the middle order.

Bairstow has become a decent keeper too - very nice catch earlier.

Good call on Moeen Ryorry!

30-2 - now let's get Smith or Warner before tea. This partnership looks pretty big for them now.

Yaaaaaay!

Good points re pressure on middle order. I do think that even if Stokes were allowed on the plane, there'd be a lot of mental pressure on him tho - would the Aussies stoop to sledging him about the off-pitch stuff? - or maybe it boosts his rep in their eyes?!

Agree we do need another one quickly now -

Btw, if anyone's looking for prezzy for a cricket-loving relly/friend -

We've been bowling really well - Broad, Woakes and Ball have been pretty quick and accurate and Moeen has looked good. Jimmy has looked much better than I thought he would without a huge amount of swing.

Getting Warner was a big moment. Now we just have to hope Smith doesn't get 200, which is always possible!

You're like the anti-Gainsborough Ryorry! You just say something and it happens!

I think the Aussies do love Stokes like they did Flintoff.

The Blowers book might go on my Christmas list.

I heard warners shot was awful?

Got me app on now again but they haven't shown the replay yet. Our fielders look quite buoyant in the field which is always a positive sign

Not awful. Tried to flip a ball that wasn’t quite short enough off his legs and it went straight to mid wicket. Didn’t look great, but wasn’t an out and out shocking shot.

If Handscomb had chopped on just now when he didn’t move his feet it would have looked x10 worse.

Can't be as bad as Woakes shot for his wicket

The worst shot you'll see all series imo

Ohhhhhh Jimmy you beautiful man! Get in there! Jimmy strikes with the ball tailing back in and traps Hanscomb back leg LBW. Absolutely plum. Root called for a review after it was given not out (assume that the umpire believed at was involved) and he was spot on. England are right in this test match folks! A very good full delivery from the king of swing.

76-4
