Cracking hundred defying my predictions fortunately, can we...please..get through till the end.

It's so important to get through 4 down.

Lovely knock from Malan and Jonny is going well too.

We're a positive bunch aren't we?!

Seeing off this new ball is vital so we can get to a position a least not to lose from. The quick scoring rate means that 400 doesn't guarantee anything, as it might have in the previous games.

Well, first century of the tour for Malan and the partnership is up to 163 at the moment. Given I woke up just after the fourth wicket went down, it's been pretty good today.

Thea failures of Root (bar one innings) and Cook together with the collective under-performance of the bowling attack just leave us looking a little weak. 450+ in this innings might make things interesting.

This is a great partnership. I think they'll bat well but runs on the board help.

One thing I'll never understand about cricket is the time vs overs thing - there's no reason not to bowl 90 because the clock says so. I know it's only one over but why not just get the 90 in when there's no reason not to?

305/4 at stumps, 174 in this partnership so far.

Good stuff, really need to build on it tomorrow. Would love to win this Test and reign the Aussie boasting in a bit. They'll still win the series but let's not gift them all five Tests.

Great day for us.

That 1st session tomorrow is, as always, vital. If that 1st session is 80-1 then it's advantage England.

Yep, enjoyable test cricket that.

Even if it is 1 place, amazing what happens when Bairstow gets moved up to his proper position.

Just read this story in the times from Alan Mullally.. made me giggle

“My first tour was to New Zealand and Zimbabwe. Atherton was making his flies for fishing. I love deep sea fishing. I’ve fished all my life. I think ‘what is he doing with this fly s---?’ He is making all these flies and catches nothing. We are in New Zealand, I go fishing and land this mako shark, had to be 90-100kg. I stick it in the ute. David Lloyd, who was coach, says 'you know what you got to do with it, but you will get dropped’. I say ‘yeah you’re a selector help me out’. He says ‘no... but you have to do it.’

“So I drag this fish back to the five-star hotel in Napier. Got it on my shoulder, it stank to high heaven, blood everywhere. I say to reception can I have the key to Mr Atherton’s room, while having this stinking shark on my shoulder. Ironically he was in the room next to me. I get his key, go in and throw it on the bed. I wrote a note, stuck it on the pectoral fin. It said ‘Athers this is a fish’. I go back to my room, he comes back and all I hear is ‘f---ing hell... Mullally.”

“Who throws a Mako shark on their captain’s bed on their first tour? I do.”

Unlikely that we'll win this test, unless we get lucky with the Fremantly Dr coming in and bringing some swing just as we start bowling. Its a belting pitch, and we've seen before that our seam attack is likely to look very ineffectual unless it swings.

Need a huge first innings to have a chance really, score board pressure can do funny things to batsmen even on relatively benign wickets and we do have bowlers capable of bowling to plans and building pressure. Big ask, but nice for us to not be out of contention before the end of the first day.

Morning all. It's a beautiful start to the day here in Thailand and I can't wait for the second day to resume. I think we can expect some pretty hostile bowling at first and if Malan and Bairstow can negotiate that we're set for a decent score.

After issues yesterday, I've managed to get my tablet back on with virgin media. That and the NFL on sky on the box makes this a decent night of sport.

Ironic that arguably our best day of the tour for England so far was the first one I missed.

Morning TB - this first hour seems vital doesn't it. The batsmen have to start again but if they get going and we don't lose more than a wicket in the morning session, we should be set.

Good disciplined batting at the start - we need to be batting for most of the afternoon session, then we shouldn't lose.

Lovely batting from the two Englishman here.

Back to back boundaries from Bairstow through the covers moves the partnership to 193. Incredible. A record 5th wicket English partnership in Australia.

That's the 200 partnership - that's a great effort and they've batted very sensibly this morning against the new ball.

Great to watch. Really enjoyable cricket.

100 for Bairstow! Lovely stuff. Well batted lad 👏🏻

We must go on and win this test match. We have to from this position if we are to regain the ashes. A draw from this position isn't enough. Though I may have taken a draw at the start of this test match in order to keep an interest in the Boxing Day test - not anymore.

I love Jonny so really enjoyed that!

After 6 runs from the first 6 overs, they're actually scoring quickly now.

I agree that we need to win from here but the pitch is a belter and 20 wickets will be a huge challenge, unless Broad has a 'special'.

🚨WICKET!🚨

Malan's magnificent innings is over. It seems strange to say but he has got out through pure fustration. His quick scoring day had stalled when Lyon got at him and he eventually came down the track in the hope of going over the top. Unfortunately, he Top edged to point and is caught spectacularly on the dive.

Moeen is in now. Needs an innings as he has looked very weak this series. Arguably the biggegst disappointment of the tour so far. Could that change here?

PLayed really well, but bit of a modern dismissal that. Just have a bit of patience if the bowling's tight for a couple of overs! Still, well played.

Malan goes three balls after I tune in.🙄

At least the collapse to 350 all out doesn't materialise.
