Hello All,
As some of you may remember, my brother was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma last October.
So from then through to July this year, he under-went treatment including chemotherapy and radiotherapy. These managed to clear the cancer and therefore he was able to Stem-Cell Transfer treatment to help prevent the disease returning.
However, some scans a couple of weeks ago showed that the disease has unfortunately returned in his brain (although the rest of his body is clear), and there is nothing more the doctors can do - he has already had the maximum amount of radiotherapy anyone can have in a lifetime and the chemo he was on was the strongest available - but the disease has proven to be stronger.
As a result, he is now going to spend the next few months doing as much as he can with his wife and kids (3 in December and 5 in February) while he can. They have a number of various things planned.
One of these is a charity gig.... at Easter, while he was under-going treatment, his old Sixth Form band reformed for a charity gig to raise money for a charity that had helped them out. They raised a couple of grand for the charity and a good time was had by all (ask Hoppy!).
Given the recent turn of events, they are reforming again and playing Venue 77 on 16th December (evening of the Reading home game) for what is likely to be the last time..... this time they are rasising money for the St Elizabeth Hospice charity as one of the other band members lost his sister-in-law to cancer earlier this year as well, and they were a great help. And given what my brother is about to go through, will no doubt be invaluable to him and the family.... there was an article in the Star last week:

I spoke to ITFC_Forever after the game last night and he told me about this.
The previous gig they did that he mentions here was absolutely superb, and it would be great if a good number can make it, especially as it’s the evening after a home game. It’s for a really good charity as well - my cousin was cared for by the hospice during his last months when he had cancer a few years ago and they do an amazing job, not only for the sufferer, but in support for the whole family. |  |

Thanks Hoppy, meant to add to this thread today and haven't got round to it.
Last night there were 18 tickets left of the penultimate batch.
I know at least half the 18 has now gone ('cos I bought them as I hadn't yet got mine), so they must be in to the final batch (of 50 I think), so there are very few left now.
Reading at home, nip back for a bit to eat and then a night with some good music and raising some money for a very good cause. What's not to like? | |
