"We don't have to sell these players" followed by a list of names clearly means "Please someone buy these players".
Bloots tweeted an even more amusing piece on how that last transfer window before they were relegated they ended up with players on big wages with limited, if any, relegation clauses.
Indeed. Odd though that they don't feel they need to sell this January... I would have thought that would be essential for them to balance the books - unless the fire sale will begin in the summer.
Exchanged a couple of messages with a friend over night - he feels that because so many of their season ticket holders have never seen anything but Premiership or promotion football that they'll lose a large chunk this summer if things carry on as they are.
They will also find themselves quickly in the same position as us - if they don't have the resources to compete for promotion, they will have to decide what is the best strategy in this division. Evans' strategy is clearly to retain a manager who can minimise the chances of relegation, while making a bid for the play-offs and hoping to get lucky 1 season out of 2/3.
Daft thing is.. They are desperate for a decent striker, so if (and this is a big IF) they can offload Naismith and possibly Hoolahoop (too old) and use that to bring in someone who can actually finish they'll be a decent side..
As it is though, looks as though they'll probably be paying Naismith until he retires and need to offload plenty loads next summer after finishing 14th with a fans revolt
Wow. That is an absolute car crash. Probably thinks he is ticking the box of 'managing expectations' but in reality is just manning a megaphone shouting 'run for your lives'.....'everyone is going to die'.

Will be fun to watch... ;-)
Yes they're definitely trying to offload a couple in Jan without saying so specifically.
Imagine if they leave it until summer and no one comes running in for their half decent players. They'd be completely shafted. Fire sale wouldn't be the phrase. 55 million in wages, with a realistic income of what, 10 million, maybe 15, plus a level one academy, they're not cheap! Something big will have to give.

Top as in highest paid. Obviously they are sh!te
I presume Naismith is one. What a dreadful signing he has been for them, a player who has had a handful (normal handful at that) of good games in the Premier league over several seasons and can't cope with the Championship.
Their wage bill must still be around the £40m mark, so they will need to halve that at least for a few seasons in this league or L1.
Of course they may find an investor/benefactor to prop them up for a few seasons, but surely they will need to sell one or two of their better players (Maddison, Olivera) in Jan, and bring in more loans from the German 2nd tier to replace them.

All bodes well for when we play them in Feb!
A lot of their high salary earners are contracted until 2019:

Top players on £45k a week apparently. Oh dear....
Naismith is reportedly on a basic salary of 50k per week (there was no relegation clause) Hoolahoop is supposedly on 30k a week as well. Tettey will be on a few quiid.. and Oliveira must be on a competitive wage as Nodge signed him ahead of a couple of other suitors (Forest being one, who were being reckless with their money at the time)
The likes of Bassong, Ruddy, Turner, Bennett a were all offloaded (as well as sales of Howson, Murphy) but they're still in the mire.. Must have misjudged it catastrophically as they've still shed a huge amount of expenditure and brought in money from player sales.. to still be in trouble shows some shocking leadership (albeit quite funny from out viewpoint)

It was reported a couple of months ago that their wage bill was around £55m - Which happens to be the highest wage bill ever in the Championship. (more that Newcastle last season)
Average is supposedly around £25m and ours is somewhere in the region of £20m
I can only assume, any player Nodge signed since 2015 is on astronomical wages

Second highest wage bill btw, they haven't quite matched QPR's financial incoherence yet.
Even so, it would be a good time to check that insurance policy on the stands.

IIRC, didn't they sign Steven Naismith in the January transfer window and put him on £45k a week, without inserting a relegation wage % cut, should they get relegated (which they did).

It would be very very stupid indeed to announce that they do.
