Closing down and pressing on the halfway line forced them sideways and backwards a lot making their possession ineffective, this was a part of the tactics that really worked for us.

I thought we had more than 30% possession but nonetheless... we were really in control of the game for most of it despite the stats.

Precisely. A sloppy and open team will probably have higher possession stats than a team who play high press thoroughly and consistently.

I don't think it proves anything of the sort to be honest. Man City have won nearly every game this season and had the highest percentage of possession in each of them.

I think it shows there is more than one way to win a football match and more importantly its what you do with your possession that counts, particularly at Championship level.

I think it also shows what happens when the manager’s philosophy is too work everything from the back and the players really aren’t good enough to make it work consistently. How many goals would we concede through mistakes in procession if we tried to play like that? Think yesterday’s game also showed you really don’t get the best from Murphy if you operate a slow build up and don’t get the ball forward early.
