Tradesmen - keep your tools safe 16:18 - Dec 6 with 11495 viewsitfcjoe

One of our guys has had a few thousand worth nicked out of his van overnight - no visible damage so just be extra vigilant as heard a couple of others in the IP area recently.

I had £200 worth of shopping nicked out of mine at Lakeside a couple of weeks back, who'd have thought Lakeside doesn't have CCTV in the multi storey car parks.

Scum of the earth who steal

Absolute filth.

I hate thieves as it is, but when it's someone's living...

Yeah, it's absolute scum - our guy didn't realise he'd been robbed until he got to Witham this morning to complete a lock change. Luckily was able to do it with a screwdriver, we'd have obviously paid him regardless but if he was self employed that would have been at least a days money gone when sorting things too.

One of our guys has just totally covered his locks with CT1 and discs so can only be unlocked from the front door master key

Just had someone from Essex Police come in to our work at Marks Tey to say the house across the road from us had their house ransacked and BMW nicked from their drive at 4.30pm yesterday. Unfortunately, we're slightly tucked out the way from the road on the A120 so wasn't able to see, and not many people from the houses around the area were in at that time.

Scum.

How did they get in your car??

It happens everywhere, it doesn't matter where you live. You have to be vigilant, the trouble is you can't win, a neighbour of mine never leaves tools in his van but his van has been broken into twice this year just to check. A couple of weeks ago one of dogs woke me up barking at 2am. I didn't put the lights on but opened the door, there were 2 lowlife lurking nearby. They had clearly been on my drive because my security light was on. They heard me and casually walked away, got into their car and drove away, not putting their lights on. I rang the police, they hadn't a car in the area.

I have a low moral compass but I can't abide theft or adulterers.

I had my house broken into many years ago, I was quite lucky really as they only nicked a video recorder. I have quite a large collection of expensive jackets*** that they never saw and up until the previous day I had about £2k of pound coins on my study floor waiting to be counted.

Since then I have always had a Bull Terrier, they'll let someone in but they won't let them out!

Edit****This isn't a look at me post, I just have a thing about jackets - I am only beaten by ABB the tart.

It's funny you mention those two things as I'm pretty much in the exact same mind. The pain that everyone feels after someone has an affair is horrible, ruins lives. Just have fun with your own partner I say, and if they aren't up for that then be a man and split up respectfully
Anyway, merry Xmas

My brother in law had his chipper stolen and all of his chainsaws a while back. Chainsaws were all in a safe box chained to his pick up and the chipper locked in the yard.
He brings everything into the house now much to the dismay of my sister.

Give him a ball and a yard of grass

No rich people are stealing - if you leave people impoverished then what do you expect?

Anyone can be a thief if they have no choice.

I don’t understand who buys them really - surely no honest tradesman would want to be seen with moody gear?

They are probably basically given away, £5k new and the thief will prob get rid for a few hundred quid - some people will buy stuff of the back of a lorry, especially things like batteries that can be £70-80 a pop if can get one for £10.

Plenty of 2nd hand tools get traded, I guess it's like money laundering getting them back into the honest system!

My son is a tree surgeon, they are targeted all of the time. He keeps all of his gear in a lockup on a secure site, it's costs him loads plus a 20 mile round trip.

I was helping him one day, on the way to the lockup, he was towing a chipper I was behind in his tipper truck I noticed he was being followed. I rang him, hands free, and told him to stop at the cop shop which was on route. We did this they still waited up the road. His mate lost a chain saw whilst he was up a tree. He saw the bloke take it.

We all know who is nicking the stuff as do the police. Sadly it ends there.
