Haggis already is porridge ... just replace your stewed apple with some stewed sheep lungs, liver and heart.

"stewed sheep lungs, liver and heart" Stewed? You Scots really know how to take horrible food and make it worse. *Liver excepted. But not stewed surely. [Post edited 15 Dec 2017 19:17]

Haha! TBH I have no idea how they prepare it. But you're wrong - Haggis is utterly magical and you'd be a fan of the spices.

I love haggis but had a bad experience with it at a wedding in Inverness a few summers back...within 36hrs of being in Scotland I had 4 meals containing haggis...the final one was haggis and chopped chives which I washed down with 7 pints, a few shots of some paint stripper and then an espresso martini. Turns out such a mix can make the human body create a purple haggis rainbow at around 3am

No wonder you're one of the quieter posters on here - according to this letter under the BBC article, perhaps we should all be eating it daily, might help reduce the petty arguing on here! "Our 8 year old son has shown some strange and difficult to manage behaviour problems over the last 5 months, and we have come to realise that it is connected to food. If we can get him to eat, his mood improves very quickly. Having kept detailed food and behaviour diaries for many weeks, we have noticed that if he eats bowl of Scott's porridge oats for supper, it almost guarantees that his behaviour will be pleasant the following morning. I had even commented to my husband just last week that I am tempted to write to the manufacturer to see if they can shed any light on why. I have done lots of reading around low GI foods and know that proper porridge oats are a good source.."

Then out of respect to you, (and my Scottish uncle I suppose), I'll have to try it in the new year. But you weren't selling it there you know! If I'm going to give it proper credit then some supermarket effort isn't going to cut it is it? No doubt Facters will know somewhere, or even maybe J2 will pop up with a surprise suggestion from the Food Hall.

MrsNewcy does something similar overnight in the slow cooker. Apples, cranberries, oats, and some other stuff. Superb thing to wake up to. She did a gingerbread oats thing in the slow cooker last week which had a nice warming sensation.

"She did a gingerbread oats thing in the slow cooker last week which had a nice warming sensation." That's enough of the euphemisms. How was breakfast?

I can be honest about the ingredients because it tastes so damn good! You won't get a proper job at a butcher's down south but off the shelf, the supermarket efforts generally aren't bad. Macsween or Hall's are more than good enough, and you can get them at a lot of places.

Damn you've even given me recommendations. Ok, ok I get it. I'll try your heathen food. And get back to you on the result. When's that Burns chap's night? That would seem the appropriate time to make the effort. [Post edited 15 Dec 2017 22:36]

25th of January. But just have it for lunch one day. Burn's Night demands whisky and poetry as well ... you might overdose.
