This bit caught my eye in particular:

Would there be some legal redress for his former students, assuming that he was to be so stupid as to carry out his threat? If he was talking about a reference for an employee, he would clearly find himself in some difficulty.
Regardless, in my opinion he comes across as quite the egotistical bellend (quite appropriate from his surname). I should perhaps have picked this up from the photograph and saved myself the trouble of reading the article! | | | |

This is of course correct.
Universities (and I assume schools) make far more from foreign students not to mention the amount they are willing to pay for accommodation as well just for a UK private education.
Universities actively pitch for Chinese students knowing it's a good way for them to make up their budgets.
I believe the student rooms in the new buildings in London go for upwards of 400 quid a week. I think when I was at university it was about 170 quid for a room in a shared house for a month. Admittedly it wasn't brilliant and didn't have gigabit wifi and a panoramic view over the London skyline.
