It's the Yorkshire Ripper, although I wasn't aware of him using a hammer.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

He definitely did use a hammer - I thought it was hammer that was found in his car (after he was stopped for something like a light out or false plates) that led to his arrest and confession.

Well-known in Wolverhampton that he and bremner tried to bribe Wolves players in 1972 to enable dirty leeds to win the title. Wolves won, and the title went to Derby County.

I know that story.

I saw Leeds win the F.A. Cup at Wembley two days before so they were going for the Double.

I know that Don Revie was desperate to win trophies and his Leeds teams deserved to win more than they actually did.

I know that his 1973/74 team was one of the very best English teams that I have seen.

I know that it was alleged that he offered bribes.

I encountered a couple of Wolves players from that era during my time in Wolverhampton. They were, as I recall, in complete agreement on two things: the bribery story and the fact that Bill McGarry was a terrifying b'stard.
