So they now have a back four where each individual cost in excess of £50m!!

Thats some defence.

Their transfer record is actually quite low compared to some of the crazy ones now.

They would have to smash their transfer record to get someone like De Bruyne now.

ANother amazing achievement for Pep. Spends the most money, has the best squad & guess what, will win the league!

What a great manager

He'll be judged on whether he can win the Champions League. Didn't do so at Bayern, so might be considered a failure there. The fact they dominated domestically is no achievement

Have they spent the most money - Man Utd who are 12 points behind must be pushing them close.

He was their record signing until today.

But I take your point.

Yep. Laporte pushes them towards 450m in 2 seasons I think it is? Late bid for Mahrez as well apparently.

He’s just gone out and signed the best players in each position. It’s no coincidence he’s won the title

The fees United paid out for Pogba and Lukaku are way higher than any single fee City have paid. Some football fans are weirdly anti-Pep and try to discredit him at every opportunity, it's very strange. If you love football I don't understand how you can't appreciate what he does. Mourinho spends just as much money and anyone who says they'd rather watch a Mourinho side is a liar.

To be fair, in the past few years City have spent very well. That's the key point.

Other clubs seem to have more transfer misses than City.

The whole point is that he hasn't surely - what world stars have Man City signed under him?

The big transfers since he's been there have gone to Man U (Lukaku, Ogba, Sanchez), PSG (Neymar), Barca (Coutinho) etc

Which world superstars has he signed? Had you even heard of Laporte before this window?

Man City seem to have direction from the top of the club, Man Utd and Chelsea who are thier closest competitors here are 2 strange beasts.

Man U seem to be dictated to by agents and sign what they consider best players available rather than what they need.

Chelsea are just a bit of a shambles and send everyone out on loan and allow manager to bring in similar players so clearly warring factions at head of the club.

Man City are all pulling in the right direction, they are signing players on the way up and turning them into superstars - yes they are spending a lot of money too, but they aren't getting in ny of the silly deals like a lot of others are

But KDB wasn't a household name like he is now when he signed for them - he's only flourished whilst at Man City.

A lot of the players they sign are good, but with the potential to become brilliant.
Likewise Aguero, Sterling, Navas, Sane, Jesus, Silva etc.

Robinho was their only real big mistake from memory, and that was a vanity signing.

I guess Mangala is up there.

But since they got Begiristain in they have a very good record and clear strategy.

You could also say that Yaya Toure was at the height of his powers when he signed, and then waned, particularly in his last season.
But they certainly got some years out of him at his peak.

They needed to pay over the odds at first to convince others to join - they are past that stage now and flourishing

Exactly, the first couple of seasons when they were paying Adebayor 150k a week were just a means to an end, which we are now seeing.

Like others have said they've spent well.. In fact they've spent consistently similar figures year on year for the past 3 years so I would imagine that now they've established themselves they'll perhaps move into the '2 or 3 signings a summer' approach

Yeah of course I had?

Walker isn’t the best RB in the world? Stones wasn’t a highly rated CB? Etc

He’s not built a squad from zero has he? He’s also inherited De Bruyne/Silva/Aguero.

Let’s just say, he’s not hard up is he? No coincidence that the side that’s spent the most is winning the title.

Since Jose has come in United's business has been far more focused.

Ed Woodward is a marketing man and he wanted the big names.

Ibra will be gone at the end of the season, leaving just Pogba as a global brand.

Success is a better marketing tool.

Exactly. Which is why I don’t understand why people get so excited about Pep. He has the most money and the best squads in every league he’s worked in aside from Barca where he inherited three best players in the world in that time in Xavi, Iniesta & Messi.

To be fair.... his budget is similar to Man Utd, and he's making them look pretty ordinary.

Also he appears to be much better at getting the best out of his stars.

If he wins the CL where there will be more teams with comparable budgets then he will have done well.

Firstly - Real madrid hardly had a small budget when he was going up against them, and Iniesta was seen as less important than Torres, Senna, Fabregas, Villa, Puyol in the Spain side at the time Pep came in let alone being the top 3 players in the world. He played on the right for Spain in the Euro's.

He clearly had a bigger budget at Bayern than anyone else

And again in England, his budget is probably smaller than Man Us and not too dissimilar to Chelsea's in reality - it's hardly like the team that is setting records and playing an unbelievably entertaining style of football have a budget 10x their nearest competitors so it should be expected to be THIS good.
